As well as being a keen biker my other great passion is boat fishing. I have designed a couple of items to make fishing a little cleaner and easier on board your boat. And watch this space as there will be more to come.

SUPERIOR BAIT BOARDS

Our superior quality boat bait boards are attached with four marine grade 316 fixing bolts washers and nuts to two marine grade 316 stainless steel fixing bars welded to very strong industrial rail clamps, giving a extremely strong and sturdy work surface that will not twist turn or wobble or break when in use unlike some boards with lightweight plastic fixings.

These DURABLE moulded-(no jointed back & sides) trays are available as two types

Type 1: Large with removable tray. Length: 61cm Width: 55cm Height: 20cm

Type 2: a slightly smaller single layer tray. Length:58cm Width:45cm Height:12cm

Both types have two Stainless Steel split ring on the back to attach lanyards, to ensure your expensive knives, split ring pliers etc. will not go overboard (for those fast travelling choppy days out!)

VARY-CHUM is so called as chum flow can varied by moving its internal blanking tube.

The blanking tube insert can be moved to uncover or cover the different size holes to adjust the chum flow, great for different coarse or finely chopped – minced chum baits.

When all of the small 8mm holes are exposed, the chum flow is slow.

For a medium chum flow the blanking tube is set half way.

When all of the large 13mm holes are exposed, the chum flow is very fast.

For the maximum release of chum the Internal blanking tube can be removed, this is a little fiddly and is not often used but can be an option if a large quantity of chum is regularly available.

To remove the internal blanking tube two of the eye bolts can be temporarily removed allowing the plastic threaded cap insert to be pulled out of the main tube. Once the internal blanking tube is removed the threaded cap insert and eye bolts can be replaced.

The VARY-CHUM has access caps and attachment points at both ends.

The end with the exposed flow holes go to the bottom as chum mix usually falls to the bottom (depending on its density and frozen state)

The VARY-CHUM can be flipped over so the

area of exposed flow holes are at the top so the chum flow can be reduced even more.

Chum can be made up to your favorite recipe using a mixture of minced or finely chopped oily fish such as Mackerel, Herrings and Pilchards mixed with fish oil, cooking oil and oats added to bind to a firm consistency, also the oats help disperse the fish oil attractants into the tidal flow. Any leftover bait can be added like Muscle, Crab, Worm, Prawn and Squid etc. Also, fish attractants can be added, these are readily available on ebay. Some people even add Tinned Dog or Cat food.

Once the chum is mixed well it can be decanted into disposable paper cups or reusable plastic food containers and frozen ready for your next fishing trip. This method makes life easier and a lot cleaner when reloading the chum tube on your boat. Simply pop the frozen chum out from the cup or container and pop them into the tube, a few can be added or one at a time for a slower disperse rate.

If you want to use round reusable plastic food containers the max diameter should not exceed 9cm

ATTACHMENT METHODS

Some people attach chum tubes to the anchor chain.

This method can cause the chum flow to miss the target area.

Some attach a rope to the top of the chum tube then lower the tube to the sea bed, to avoid snags raise the tube back up a meter or two and tie it off at the bow or at the mid-ships cleat.

This method is better for two reasons:

1, the tube follows the boat as it moves to port and starboard with the wind and the chum flow trail always staying with the boat, bringing the fish to your hooks.

2, you can check the chum tube easily and refill if necessary, without having to lift and reset the anchor.

A 1M or 2M length of 60lb to 80lb fishing line is attached to the bottom of the tube with weights attached. The stronger the tide the more weight is needed to keep the rope vertical.

Also the VARY-CHUM can be hung off the side of a boat on the surface of the water while fishing for Sharks and other fish that swim in the upper water column.
